NCM EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY
ABOUT
HOW IT WORKS
NCM Early College Academy is a partnership between Fitchburg State University, Mount Wachusett Community College, Fitchburg High School, Leominster High School, Gardner High School, and Sizer Charter High School. We provide high school students the opportunity to apply and participate in our Early College Academy, where they take college-level courses through Fitchburg State University and Mount Wachusett Community College. Courses are offered during the fall, spring, and summer sessions at either their high school or on the campus of FSU and MWCC. In grades nine and ten students will identify their personal career pathway, and then in grades eleven and twelve will enroll in college level courses. This advanced learning opportunity allows students to earn a minimum of 12 college credits toward an Associate or Bachelor's Degree while balancing the demands of a busy high school schedule.
OUR FIVE GUIDING PRINCIPLES
1
Equitable Access
To ensure that students from all backgrounds, ability levels, and areas of interest have access to early college opportunities offered through this program. We reach out to students ranging from the "middle achievers" to the "student's at-risk".
2
Guided Academic Pathways
To identify pathways that provide opportunities for students which support their career and academic plan. This provides a smooth transition to post-secondary education opportunities.
3
Enhanced Student Support
To provide students with both academic and non-academic support necessary to be successful in the early college program.
4
Personal Career Connection
To ensure students evaluate their interests and have exposure to career awareness, exploration, and immersion.
5
Effective
Partnerships
To maintain effective partnerships helping students succeed in not only post-secondary education but in their disciplines and career as well.
